‘The Wandering Crone’ is a character deeply rooted in a social commentary about the role of women in modern society as they age. She rebukes the invisibility that society has adopted towards elderly women. The Crone's presence commands your gaze and a gawping stare. Roving around the festival crowd, nitpicking those willing to engage and some unassuming patrons. Sticking her beak into everyone's business. Her cunningly wicked persona will have the crowd in stitches or rather, running to escape this nosey nonna.
Rachael Brown is a performance artist from the east coast, travelling the country with a swag of tricks in her magical van. Commedia Dell Arte has been her passion for the last 10 years, developing personas and running workshops for school students on how to drop the facade and donne a whole new persona. The masks enable her to play with the infinite potential of her own personality, unconfined by gender, age, status, era or species.
